Turkey Chili with White Beans

We have had so much snow here in Massachusetts, since the initial Snowmaggedon storm a few weeks ago, that I’ve lost count, but it’s well over 6 feet. In fact, last week, the mayor of Boston had to issue a statement warning residents to stop jumping out of their windows into the giant piles of snow below. I can see why it would be tempting, all that white fluffiness, but also very dangerous and a bad idea.

So, since we’re still covered in snow here, I’m still on a comfort food kick. A big bowl of chili, such as this Turkey Chili with White Beans, is the ultimate in comfort food. And since this chili is made with lean turkey, it has the benefit of being a healthy comfort food option.

Even though it’s healthy, this Turkey Chili with White Beans is still super delicious and full of flavor. It contains cocoa powder and cinnamon, along with the more typical spices used in chili, and this combination gives it a wonderful depth.

Turkey Chili with White Beans

I first made this Turkey Chili with White Beans years ago, after coming across the recipe at epicurious.com. The unusual spices intrigued me and after I made it, I was so delighted by the surprising depth of flavor that, combined with the fact that it’s a healthy choice, it’s a chili that I make regularly, even when we’re not covered in snow.

This Turkey Chili with White Beans packs a spicy kick, my husband and I love it this way. However, if you prefer a milder chili, you will want to reduce the amount of chili powder, as I need to do to suit my kids’ tastes.

Turkey Chili with White Beans

This warm and satisfying Turkey Chili with White Beans is the perfect meal for a cold winter’s day, but it is so delicious, flavorful and healthy that it’s wonderful any time of year.

So, tell me, would you ever consider jumping out your window into a giant pile of snow?

Just kidding! Of course you wouldn’t. Instead, tell me — what are your favorite activities to do during the snowy weather? Or better yet, if applicable, make me jealous and tell me about your part of the world, where there is no snow!

  7. Jumping out of a window into the snow sounds like a really stupid idea and it doesn’t surprise me there are plenty of idiots willing to try it. lol Folks in the northeast have gotten hit hard this winter with snow storm after snow storm. Up until a few weeks ago East Tennesseans were enjoying a normal winter and then the snow and ice hit with bitter temps. We haven’t gotten the kind of accumulations that you have, but remember we are a lot farther south than you and if we get anything more than a dusting of powder then everything halts. At least secondary roads do, which means we can’t get out at a bear minimum the day after said storm. The forecast holds promise starting tomorrow. I’m ready for spring to march in, as I know you are, too. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I saved it to try sometime.
