Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa – baked pasta gets a delicious twist with the addition of kielbasa, perfect for an easy dinner that the whole family will enjoy.
Kielbasa is always a hit at my house, my husband, in particular, is a big fan. He is always happy whenever I incorporate kielbasa into a meal recipe.
Baked ziti is one of my go-to recipes for an easy family dinner, I’ve been making it for many years. I typically use ground beef in my baked ziti, I thought it would be fun to change it up, and use kielbasa instead and create a Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa.
This past week, while doing my weekly grocery shopping at my local Walmart, I picked up the ingredients I would need for my Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa including Hillshire Farm® Polska Kielbasa, which is located in the Packaged Deli section
I love Hillshire Farm® Rope Sausages, they are made with premium cuts of meat, are perfectly seasoned and fully cooked, and really bring farmhouse goodness to my table.
This Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa is so easy to prepare and is a great dish for a family dinner or casual entertaining.
First, gather the ingredients, including ziti pasta, baby bella mushrooms, chopped onions, minced garlic, Hillshire Farm® Polska Kielbasa, marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, light sour cream, sliced provolone cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese.
Add the ziti to a large pot of boiling water and cook according to the package directions.
While the ziti is cooking, prepare the sauce. First, heat some olive oil in a large skillet and sauté the mushrooms until they start to soften, about 3 minutes. Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and set aside. Slice the kielbasa and add it along with the onions and garlic to the same skillet and sauté until the kielbasa starts to brown, about 3 minutes.
Add the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes and sautéed mushrooms to the skillet and stir to combine. Allow the mixture to come to a boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
In the meantime, when the ziti is finished cooking, drain it in a colander. Transfer half of the drained pasta into a greased 9 x 13-inch casserole dish, arranging evenly. Top with half of the sauce mixture, arranging evenly.
Dollop half of the sour cream on top of the sauce and arrange half of the provolone slices on top of the sour cream.
Repeat the layers of pasta, sauce, sour cream and provolone. Then sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over top of the casserole. Cover the casserole with foil and put it in the preheated oven
Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until it is heated through and bubbly. Then, remove the foil and bake until it starts to turn a nice golden brown on top, about 10 – 15 additional minutes.
My husband was absolutely delighted when I served this Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa for dinner. He loved that I had swapped out the usual ground beef and had used kielbasa instead.
The Hillshire Farm® Polska Kielbasa is a wonderful addition to my baked ziti and makes a favorite old recipe, new again.
Baked ziti is also one of my go-to recipes for entertaining extended family. My in-laws live in The Netherlands and when they come to visit us in Massachusetts, they will stay for several weeks. During that time, my parents will usually come up from Maryland to stay with us for a short visit as well, so that everyone has a chance to spend time together.
During these visits, with both sets of parents staying with us, I rely on easy recipes that make enough for a group, such as baked ziti.
Both my father and my father-in-law are huge fans of kielbasa as well, so I know they’re going to love my new variation of an old favorite, this delicious Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa.
This Cheesy Baked Ziti with Kielbasa, a delicious blend of pasta, melted cheese and slices of kielbasa is a great twist on the usual baked pasta dish and is perfect for an easy family dinner or casual entertaining. A tossed green salad and some crusty bread are the perfect accompaniments.
