BOO’ing – a Favorite Halloween Tradition
October is here and with Halloween approaching, it is time to prepare for BOO’ing. BOO’ing is a favorite Halloween tradition and a great way to surprise family and friends. First, you create a bundle of Halloween goodies. Then you secretly deliver it to someone along with a note encouraging them to go ahead and “BOO It Forward” and BOO someone else. It is a lot of fun and we look forward to BOO’ing every year.
I’ve mentioned that we recently moved from Massachusetts down to Pennsylvania. We’ve moved into a great neighborhood and have some wonderful new neighbors who have been so welcoming to us. So, this year, I thought it would be fun to surprise our new neighbors with a really special BOO bundle, that I’m calling the Ultimate BOO Basket.
Shopping for BOO’ing Supplies at Walmart
To purchase my BOO’ing supplies, I headed over to my local Walmart, which is a one stop shop for all of your BOO’ing needs. In the grocery section there is a seasonal aisle devoted to Halloween treats.
In this seasonal aisle, I picked up a variety bag that included SNICKERS® Fun Size, M&M’S® Fun Size and TWIX® Fun Size and a variety bag that included Skittles® Original Fun Size, Starburst® Fun Size and Life Savers® Gummies Fun Size. Also, in this aisle, I picked up a box of Pringles® Spooky Stacks, which I thought would be great for BOO’ing.
In the gift card section at Walmart, I picked up some cute and colorful Halloween themed American Greetings® gift bags and tissue paper. In the seasonal Halloween section of the store, I picked up some Halloween themed American Greetings® treat bags.
The Ghostbusters® Movie – available on DVD, Blu-ray and VUDU
Have you seen the new Ghostbusters® movie? My parents took my son to see it this summer when it was in theaters, they all really enjoyed it. I missed it when it was in theaters, and can’t wait to see it. So lucky for me, just in time for Halloween, starting 10/11, the new Ghostbusters® movie will be available in stores at Walmart on Blu-ray and DVD. It can also be preordered on Blu-ray or DVD now, and is also available on VUDU.
Back at home, I had everything I needed to create my BOO bundles, including my Ultimate BOO Basket. I knew I wanted to include a homemade treat in the BOO basket, and I immediately thought to make pumpkin scones. I love scones of all kinds and they are great for gift giving. In the past, I’ve made pumpkin scones with either raisins or chocolate chips. This time, I thought it would be fun to use some of the TWIX® candies to make Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones.
How To Make Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones
These Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones are really easy to make. First, gather the ingredients including flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground allspice, ground cloves, butter, sugar, an egg, pumpkin and TWIX® candies.
In a large mixing bowl, add all of the dry ingredients and whisk to combine, then set aside. Add the butter and sugar to the bowl of a standing mixer and beat well until light and fluffy. Add the pumpkin and egg to the sugar and butter mixture and beat well to combine.
Working in batches, add the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture, mixing well after each addition. Chop the TWIX® candies into bite size pieces and stir into the batter.
Drop the batter by heaping tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets. In a small bowl, mix together some ground cinnamon and sugar to make the topping.
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the scones. Place the baking sheets into the preheated oven and bake for about 12 – 15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Then, remove the baking sheets from the oven and place on racks to cool.
These little Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones are soft and delicious, with a light, cakey texture. The chocolate and caramel from the TWIX® candies, complements the pumpkin and warm spices nicely.
These little scones are wonderful with a cup of coffee for breakfast, as a snack with a cup of hot tea, or as a sweet treat anytime. These mini scones would also be a great addition to a Halloween party and are perfect for gift giving.
How To Assemble the Ultimate BOO Basket
Once my scones were ready, it was time to assemble my Ultimate BOO Basket. First, I wrapped some decorative spider web with spiders around a sea grass basket, both purchased at Walmart. I then lined the interior sides and back of the basket with some of the colorful American Greetings® tissue paper.
Next, I filled one of the American Greetings® treat bags with some of my Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones. I filled a few other treat bags with a mixture of the SNICKERS® Fun Size, M&M’S® Fun Size and TWIX® Fun Size candies and the Skittles® Original Fun Size, Starburst® Fun Size and Life Savers® Gummies Fun Size candies. I nestled the treat bags in the basket along with a couple of the Pringles® Spooky Stacks.
I then printed out a “You’ve Been BOO’ed” card to include in my basket. You can find and print your own BOO cards at BooItForward.com. Finally, I tucked the “You’ve Been BOO’ed” card along with some colorful sparkly pumpkins, also purchased at Walmart, into my basket.
The Ultimate BOO Basket – Ready for Delivery
And, that’s it. My Ultimate BOO Basket was assembled and ready for delivery. My plan is to wait until it’s dark and then secretly head over to my neighbors and place the basket on their doorstep. I’ll ring the doorbell and make my getaway, leaving them to enjoy the surprise.
I know my neighbors are going to love both the Pumpkin TWIX® Mini Scones and the festive, goodie filled Ultimate BOO Basket.
BOO’ing is such a fun Halloween tradition that we look forward to every year. Shopping at Walmart makes it easy to get everything you need to make creative BOO bundles, such as my Ultimate BOO Basket.
The festive gift bags filled with goodies or the filled treat bags on their own are also great for BOO’ing. We like to BOO family, friends and neighbors. It is also fun to BOO teachers and coworkers. Wait until they are away from the classroom or office for a meeting and then secretly leave a BOO bundle on their desk. Everyone is sure to love the festive surprise and will be encouraged to BOO It Forward and continue the fun.
Who will you BOO this Halloween? Please let me know in the comments below!
