Sparkling Pomegranate Punch – this bright, festive and fun cocktail is the perfect drink to enjoy with family and friends during the holiday season.
I love the holiday season, the decorations, the music, and, of course, getting together with family and friends to enjoy good food and good drinks. I especially love that during the holidays, extended family members, that we don’t get to see as often, come to visit us, such as my parents, who live seven hours away in Maryland, and my brother and sister-in-law who live in Paris, France.
During these special family holiday get togethers, I like to serve a signature cocktail — something festive, fun, and memorable, that gets everyone in the holiday spirit. This year, I wanted to make a cocktail using pomegranates. I love pomegranates, they have such a bright, pretty red color. Plus, they are in season during this time of year.
With pomegranates in mind, I took my twin 3-year old girls and headed over to our local Target to pick up supplies to make this year’s signature cocktail. We first went to the soda aisle, where I spotted 12-packs of 7UP TEN®. I thought the bubbly lemon-lime soda would go perfectly in my pomegranate cocktail. So, I picked up a 12-pack. I also picked up a 12-pack of Diet Sunkist® Soda. My kids, especially my 7-year old son, love orange soda, and it would be another special treat for them to enjoy during the holidays.
Also, at Target, I picked up some pomegranate juice and an ice cube tray, as I planned to make pomegranate ice cubes for my signature cocktail.
Back at home, my plan for this year’s signature cocktail came together. I would use the 7UP TEN® {only ten calories with full flavor} to create a Sparkling Pomegranate Punch. Each glass of punch would have a pomegranate sugared rim and include pomegranate ice cubes — made by freezing pomegranate seeds along with 7UP TEN® in an ice cube tray. I would pour the 7UP TEN® over the ice cubes and add a splash or two of either pomegranate liqueur or pomegranate juice. Finally, I would garnish each glass of punch with a sprig or two of fresh rosemary.
How to Make Sparkling Pomegranate Punch
I soon got to work making a test batch of this year’s signature cocktail. That way, I would have the recipe perfected for when my extended family came for their holiday visit. First, I gathered the ingredients including cans of 7UP TEN®, pomegranate seeds, pomegranate sugar, pomegranate liqueur, pomegranate juice and fresh rosemary sprigs.
Next, I made the pomegranate ice cubes. I filled an ice cube tray about halfway full with 7UP TEN®, and put the tray in the freezer for 20 minutes.
Then, I removed the tray and filled it with pomegranate seeds and more 7UP TEN®. I put the tray back in the freezer. It would need to remain there for at least four hours or until the cubes were frozen solid.
Once, the ice cubes were frozen solid, I was ready to assemble the cocktails. My first step was to rim four glasses with pomegranate sugar.
I poured some of the pomegranate sugar onto a plate. I rubbed a pomegranate seed around the rim of each glass. Then, I inverted the glass and placed it in the pomegranate sugar, twisting the glass back and forth in the sugar. I then removed the glass and repeated the process with the remaining three glasses.
Next, I placed four ice cubes into a glass, then poured 7UP TEN® over the ice cubes, filling almost to the top. I then added a splash or two of pomegranate liqueur and garnished the drink with a sprig of rosemary.
I repeated this process with the remaining glasses. For an alcohol free version, I’ll use pomegranate juice in place of the liqueur.
The resulting Sparkling Pomegranate Punch is bubbly, bright and absolutely delicious. The lemon-lime flavor of the 7UP TEN® soda really complements the pomegranate nicely.
The sugared rim adds a bit of sparkle and sweetness while the fresh green rosemary adds a wonderful fragrance and looks so pretty with the bright red cocktail — perfect holiday colors.
The pomegranate ice cubes add another pop of fun color and the best part is when they start to melt. Not only will they not water down the drink, as they are made with 7UP TEN®, rather than water, they will also release the pomegranate seeds which add a nice bursting crunchiness to the drink.
I’m really looking forward to spending time with my extended family members during this holiday season. It’s such a nice time to sit back, relax and catch up, while enjoying some delicious food and drinks, such as this cheerful and colorful Sparkling Pomegranate Punch.
The holiday season is one of my favorite times of year. I have such wonderful memories of spending time together with my immediate family as well as my parents and my brother and sister-in-law during the holidays.
I know my family and friends are going to love this bright, festive and fun Sparkling Pomegranate Punch. I cannot wait to share it with them, and to create more special holiday memories together this holiday season.

Sparkling Pomegranate Punch
Notes
One or two pomegranates will yield 1 – 1 ½ cups of pomegranate seeds.
To easily remove seeds from a pomegranate, use a knife to score four lines from top to bottom to quarter the pomegranate. Fill a large bowl with cool water. Submerge the scored pomegranate in the water and using hands, break into quarters. Use fingers to separate the seeds from the membrane. The seeds will sink to the bottom and the membrane will float to the top. Discard membrane, remove seeds from water and drain.
Ingredients
for the pomegranate ice cubes
- 1 – 2 12oz cans 7UP TEN®
- 1 – 1 ½ cups pomegranate seeds (see Notes)
for the sugared rims
- pomegranate sugar (can substitute regular sugar)
- 4 pomegranate seeds
for the drinks
- 4 12oz cans 7UP TEN®

for the sugared rims
- Pour pomegranate sugar (or regular sugar) onto a plate and spread evenly into a circle that is larger than the diameter of your glasses.
- Rub a pomegranate seed around the rim of a glass.
- Invert glass into pomegranate sugar and twist back and forth. Remove glass.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 with three more glasses.
for the drinks
- Fill each glass with four pomegranate ice cubes.
- Add 7UP TEN® to each glass, filling almost to the top.
