Strawberry Banana Chia Seed Smoothies — these creamy, refreshing smoothies are wonderful for a delicious, easy, healthy breakfast or snack any time of day.
I love chia seeds, they are a super food, full of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, antioxidants and fiber and they are so versatile. I first tried chia seeds this past January, and since then I’ve been having a lot of fun creating all sorts of recipes using chia seeds. So far, I’ve shared my Coconut Almond Chia Seed Pudding, my Orange Creamsicle Chia Seed Parfaits and my Chocolate Banana Chia Seed Smoothies. Today, I have another smoothie recipe to share, these delicious Strawberry Banana Chia Seed Smoothies.
Strawberry and banana is one of my favorite combinations for smoothies and I thought chia seeds would be a nice addition, and they certainly are. The chia seeds don’t affect the flavor, rather they add another textural element as well as additional nutrients including protein, fiber and anti-oxidants, making a healthy smoothie even healthier.
Strawberry season hasn’t quite started yet here in Massachusetts, but we’ve been getting some wonderful sweet strawberries from California in the supermarkets. I like to keep a large carton in the refrigerator at all times, for my strawberry loving twin 3 year old girls. Fresh strawberries disappear quickly at our house but sometimes there is enough for me to make something such as my Strawberry Shortcake Scones or these delicious smoothies.
I also like to keep a stash of frozen banana chunks in my freezer for making smoothies, as I wrote about in my Chocolate Banana Chia Seed Smoothies post. I love using frozen banana chunks in smoothies because then you don’t need to add ice, which can melt and water the smoothies down. Using frozen banana chunks makes for really creamy, luscious, smoothies, but without adding any fat.
These delicious, creamy, Strawberry Banana Chia Seed Smoothies are wonderful for a healthy and easy breakfast. These refreshing smoothies are also great for a light, nutritious snack any time of day.

Thanks Christie! I’m afraid I don’t know the pattern of that little dish, I inherited it, along with many other wonderful dishes, from my late grandmother and there are no markings or words on the dish to indicate where it’s from. But I will ask my mom, when she gets back form her latest travel adventure, and see if she knows! 🙂
